# **FETCH — Command Definition (Final Canon)**

**Purpose:**
`FETCH` retrieves *any* stored item from the Archive, Library, Binders, Scrolllets, Scrolls, Treatise Sections, Bookly Packets, Synthetic Binders, or any other canonical storage layer **on demand**, and returns it directly to you in the form you request.

**Scope:**
`FETCH` is the **sole retrieval command**.
It supersedes all previous retrieval verbs (e.g., recall, retrieve, summon, access, etc.).
Only *store* and *structure* commands (like INJECT, CANONIZE, VEER, etc.) remain separate.

When you say “fetch X,” the system performs three steps automatically:

1. **Locate** — Search the entire internal Library and Archive for the canonical instance of X.
2. **Verify** — Ensure you receive the *final and authoritative* version (not drafts).
3. **Deliver** — Output X clearly and cleanly, in its correct formatting.

**Rules:**
1. If multiple versions of X exist, `FETCH` returns the version with the highest Bookly precedence:
- Canonized editions
- Latest null-sigil binder updates
- Highest packet number (e.g., 8.3:7 outranks 8.3:2)
- Named scrolls outrank unnamed fragments.

2. If X exists only in latent synthetic form (e.g., a scrolllet we drafted but never bound), `FETCH` resolves it and serves it, marking it for canonicalization if needed.

3. If X is ambiguous, `FETCH` returns **all candidates** and asks you which one is intended.

4. If X has been VEERed, the fetch command automatically follows the VEER pointer.
